The state auditor’s job is to be that watchdog.
The state auditor’s job is to make sure we are getting our money’s worth from our taxes. That doesn’t just mean asking if our taxes are being spent as intended, and in an efficient and effective manner. It also means asking if the money should have been spent at all!
When our tax dollars are squandered on special deals that only benefit a few insiders, our cities, towns and schools are poorer. When special tax breaks are granted to favored industries with inside connections on Beacon Hill, our taxes (and those on every other business) are raised to make up the difference. And when our legislature gives away money in the name of job creation to companies that lay off workers and keep the change, our opportunity to create real jobs is lost. When you think about it, every tax dollar we spend, every tax break we grant, and every bond we underwrite as a Commonwealth is a chance to invest in each other, ourselves, and our Commonwealth. We need our investments to start paying off for all of us.
To get the change we need on Beacon Hill, we need an auditor who is honest, forthright, and independent. We need an auditor who is analytical, thorough, and tenacious. We need an auditor who is willing and able to follow the money trail no matter where it leads.
This November 2nd, we have finally have a chance to vote for a candidate who doesn’t take money from lobbyists, who is independent of the political parties and insiders running Beacon Hill, and whose highest priorities are stronger schools, better services, and fairer taxes.
This November 2nd, please vote for Nat Fortune for State Auditor.
